Sharing our Anzac Day Highlights

This afternoon all the Hub children met together to share their Anzac Day highlights. We are learning the importance of listening to what our friends say so we can learn from them.

  • Harry liked seeing the helicopter fly over the museum.
  • Lucas D liked seeing the army marching.
  • Yashvi liked seeing the crosses with the poppies on them.
  • Maddisyn liked seeing P J Devereau's memorial cross in the Field of Remembrance.
  • Devashree liked seeing the crosses in the Field of Remembrance too.
  • Lola liked seeing her uncle's cross.
  • Ryder liked hearing the parade, especially the bagpipes.
  • Zoey liked seeing the museum lit up with red lights like the colour of poppies.
  • Campbell liked seeing so many people at the Anzac Day service.

Josh's dad sent through some great photos that he took of the services held at the Auckland Museum. Using them we talked about the meaning of the cenotaph and what the soldiers with guns do. There were three flags on the cenotaph and we could identify the New Zealand and Australian flags, but didn't know the British one.

Here is a video of the Dawn Service held in Wellington this year. We talked about the meaning of the music in the video. A bugle played The Last Post to signify the end of a soldier's day, a drum roll was heard brass band accompanied a hymn.

The National Anthem is always sung during Anzac Day commemorations. We realise that it is used on special occasions such as this, to unite us as a country and to help us remember the things that make us one. Here is the video we watched today. We liked copying the Sign Language.
