Speed machines
The students who are working on speed machines had a productive session today. They worked so quietly and studiously on their machines. It was great to see them helping each other by giving tips and suggestions.
Equal sharing
The Green Group learnt about fractions today by dividing shapes and sets into quarters.
We pretended to go on a picnic with three friends. We had to divide some food up so each person got an equal share of it.
Front cover
Today we worked on the final copy for our front cover for our book making process. We are still working on our front cover by making it look effective and eye catching. We can't wait till we finish making the whole book.
Fractions
Today the blue group learnt about halves and quarters and the symbols for it. They learnt how to equally share 12 paper counters into a half and then a quarter.
Well done blue group!

Lockdown drill
This afternoon we had a lockdown drill. When three loud bells rang we quickly gathered together in our 'safe area'. We took care to be especially quiet and still until we were told the practice was over. We did a great job and followed all the instructions given by our teachers.
Writing
Room 21 students wrote a three part story today. We remembered that if we are to write three parts we must write at least three sentences. Some of us still need to remember to use full stops!
Library
Room 21 visited the library this morning. Students were not allowed to borrow books this time because we are all on holiday next week, but they were allowed to borrow some books for our classroom library!

Leading the beat
Today we played a 'beat game'. First we had to listen to a series of beats made by a leader in the group.
Next we had to repeat the beats by clapping and drumming it out on the ground. We took turns to lead. Some of us found it difficult to repeat the beats we heard but we kept trying to get it right.
Sight Words Masters
'Practice makes perfect' that's the secret to our mastery of our Sight Words. We read Sight Words with our parents every day. Some of us practise by spelling and writing Sight Words.

Highlights
Komail & Lucas B - I liked drawing the kiwiana pictures.
Aayush - I liked finding words in the poem.
Sophie, Maddisyn & Roxana - I liked performing the song at assembly.
Rafa - I liked doing my Sight Words test.
What is kiwiana?
After a discussion about what 'kiwiana' means, Room 21 students selected pictures of New Zealand icons that they liked.
Learning Hub's Performance
Blog Title by Shreya

We went on stage for a performance during Ara Teina assembly at 9 o'clock.. We sang a Matariki song about the seven stars. It's called 'Tirama Tirama Matariki'. The seven stars are twinkling in the sky. The seven stars are: Matariki (purple), Tupu-a-nuku (yellow), Tupu-a-rangi (red), Waiti (green), Waita (blue), Waipuna-a-rangi (orange) and Ururangi (silver). Our parents came to watch our performance.
We were excited because we were going to sing the song for all the Year 1s and 2s. We felt happy standing in front of those classes. We felt like we were teachers when we taught Ara Teina how to sing and do the actions for the Matariki song.

Getting things right
We practiced our 'Tirama Tirama' song this afternoon. We had to make sure our eyes were looking at the front at all times. Getting things right is so important because we would love our parents to come and see us perform at the Ara Teina assembly tomorrow morning.
Time: 9am
Where: School hall
aw/au sounds
Room 21 explored the aw/au sounds. The following video gave us lots of ideas about words with those sounds.
Here is our illustrated brainstorm of aw/au words.

Bar graph
Today we made a bar graph by looking at the information we got from the tally graph we did yesterday with our buddy. Take a look at the awesome graphs we made.

Using our imagination
Here are Room 21 students relaxing as they create an imaginary story about flying in a rocket to Jupiter. They were listening to some music to help them imagine.
Lola imagined an interesting red coloured planet.
Maddisyn imagined a planet with lots of trees and people.
Vansh imagined a planet with one purple sun orbiting it.
Campbell imagined a planet with lots of snow.
Mia imagined a yellowish-greenish planet with aliens who were stealing gold!
We have good imaginations!
Making tally graphs
We rolled a special die today with space pictures on it. Each time a picture came up we added a tally mark. We learnt that the fifth tally mark is written a different way!
