中秋节 - Mid-Autumn Festival

We were fascinated with the legend of the Chinese Mooncake Festival which is also known as Mid-Autumn Festival. We each made a story plan to share with our family.

We learnt that Zhōngqiūjié 中秋节 means Mid-Autumn Festival and many of us could  write the Chinese character for 'moon' yuè 月.

Thank you

Thank you to Mr and Mrs Fu for coming in to share with us about mooncakes and teaching us how to make a lantern.

A busy last day

Here are the highlights of Room 21's last day of term...

Mia was presented with the class certificate today. It is her last day with us so we wanted to show our appreciation to her for always being a great friend to all of us. We wish her well.

We finished off the games we are making then tried them out! We had lots of fun!

Here are our Sight Words champions for the week. Great effort to the seven students.

To end off the day we got to blow bubbles outside!

Have a safe and happy holiday.

Highlights

Mid Autumn Festival

Today we learnt about the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, or Mooncake Festival. We watched some videos about it, read a Chinese poem, learnt how to read the word 'moon' in Chinese, then some of us made drums and paper lanterns.

The Chinese word meaning 'moon'.

Room 21 students made drums...

We made paper lanterns too.

Writing with Art

Room 21 students thought letters which only had straight lines in them, and letters that had curves.

We were inspired by the art of John Jasper who uses letters in his artwork. First we drew a spiral and wrote a sentence in the spaces then we painted in the gaps to create a colourful artwork.

Pirate fun day

We had a fun pirate day today.

We watched a video about some treasure hunters that found some 300 year old treasure - gold and silver coins, and huge canons.

We made some 'money' treasure then made a treasure map to indicate where we hid the treasure. We gave our treasure maps to our friends then asked them to look for our treasure!

Here we are making pirate hats.

We also made eye patches and telescopes!

We had heaps of fun.

We would like to remind you that this is a fundraiser for our school so if you could purchase your child's artwork you would be helping us to provide important resources for the school. Unsold artwork will remain the property of Arahoe School.

You may purchase your child's art for $10. Payment can be made by Eftpos at the school office, or by cash to the class teacher.

Changing to suit

We had such fun playing the 'Doggy, doggy' game but, because we have been learning the Peter and the Wolf story, we changed it to 'Wolf, wolf. Who's got the duck?'

Exploring a character

Room 21 watched a ballet performance of 'Peter and the Wolf'. Some of us were surprised that boys can be ballet dancers! We were curious how the dancers could tell the part of the story when the wolf swallowed the duck whole!

We made some cool masks! We drew them ourselves! Can you guess what characters the students below are?
