Learning with new technology

Room 21 students were able to use their new Apple TV today for the first time! We finished off our research about our World War 1 hero, P J Devereaux. We learnt that his family called him Paddy which made us laugh. It made us think of Paddington Bear!

We looked up the online cenotaph which gave us some information which we used to fill in our fact sheet. It also gave us a link to Paddy's military records. We looked at them and thought that the cursive writing looked so funny!  We found Paddy's birthday, and learnt that he was a farmer before he went to war. We found out that he was single. One of our friends explained what that meant. We also learnt what 'enlisted' means. Paddy was 21 when he enlisted. He received GSW to his stomach on Gallipoli and was sent to a military hospital on Lemnos Island but died two days later. Ask us what GSW means.

The online cenotaph gives readers the opportunity to lay a virtual poppy for particular ANZAC soldiers and nurses. Lucy was chosen to lay the virtual poppy for Room 21. Follow the link here to lay a poppy for Paddy from your computer.

You may also like to join the 'shadow battalion' like we did today. We made this memorial to Paddy. Yeshaya chose the reason we are remembering him.
