Week 10

News from The Learning Hub - Rooms 21 and 22

Hello Parents/Caregivers,

It's hard to believe that one year has passed since we began working with your children. It certainly is a privilege to have been a part of their lives for the year and to see them grow and learn so much. Thank you for your support and encouragement during the year.

As many of you have already heard, this Friday will be Miss Kivell and Miss Bland's last day at Arahoe School. Both of them will be moving on to new adventures! Ms Tan will be staying on and will be taking a new Year 1 class next year.

To celebrate the end of a successful year we will be having a shared lunch for the Hub children on Wednesday. Your child can wear a Christmas hat, headband or fancy glasses that day. More details are below.

There will be no library time this week.

Please check the Lost Property box in the foyer of the school hall. Any items that are not collected by Friday will be disposed of.

The final assembly for the year will be held on Friday afternoon. School will finish at 1:30pm that day.

We want to wish you all the best for the new year. Have a safe and happy holiday. Merry Christmas.

Library Books
Please return all library books as possible so the librarians can carry out a stock take. Unfortunately, if your child does not return library books, you will be billed for them.

Shared Lunch & Christmas Hat Day
The Hub are going to be celebrating the end of year by having a Hub shared lunch on Wednesday 16 December. In order to have a variety of food, we would request that:
  • girls bring sweets or fruit
  • boys bring savouries or chips
  • teachers will provide the drinks.
Some of our students require halal food so please keep this in mind when preparing your contribution. All dishes and containers must be named so that we can return them to you after the party.

We would love some parent helpers to help set up, serve and clean up our party. If you can help from 11:30am - 12:30pm on 16 December, please let the teachers know.

Children are encouraged to bring a Christmas hat or headband (or fancy glasses) to school for the party. Please name them clearly.

Last day of Term
School will finish for the year on Friday, 18 December. The finishing time is 1:30pm. Please make appropriate arrangements for your child to be picked up. If you plan to take your child on holiday early, please advise the teachers.

Starting Date - 2016
School will resume on Tuesday 2 February 2016. To be ready for school, please purchase a set of Year 2 stationery from the office prior to the start of school. There is no need to cover books or to name anything. More information about 2016 term dates can be found on the school website.

Sunhats
Because the summer heat is returning, please make sure your child has their school sunhat with them this term. Hats are to be worn during break times, so if your child doesn't have one, they will be asked to play in the shade. The school rule is...
No hat, no play, no sun today.

Spare Clothes
It is not uncommon for children to have accidents at school and need a change of clothes. To save us from calling you to collect your child from school in such a situation, please put a change of clothes into their school bag.

School App
If you have a smart phone you may like to download the free Arahoe School App called 'Skoolbag'. Download this app to be kept up to date with everything that is happening at school. It features Events, News, School Newsletters, Documents, and push notification alerts direct from the school.

Lost Property
If your child has lost something, please check through the box located on the deck in front of the hall. To save disappointment, please put your child's name on ALL items of clothing and personal belongings such as drink bottles and lunch boxes. Please note that all unclaimed items are disposed of at the end of each term.

Sunhats
During Terms 1 and 4 children must wear their school sunhat when playing outdoors. Make sure it is clearly named. If you like, you can send sunscreen with your child but please teach them how to apply it to themselves and remind them that they are not to share it with others. The rule at Arahoe School is, 'No hat, no play, no sun today.' If you could reinforce this rule at home too, it would be great.

Spare Clothes
It is not uncommon for children to have accidents at school and need a change of clothes. To save us from calling you to collect your child from school in such a situation, please put a change of clothes into their school bag.

Reports
You will be issued two written reports about your child's learning this year. As a general rule, children will receive a Progress Report at the end of their second and sixth term of schooling, and an Achievement Report at the end of the first full year of their schooling. If you would like clarification about when your child's report is due, please talk to one of the teachers.
