Yesterday we did a word find to find words starting with the 'fl' blend.

Today we spelt 'fl' words...

Highlights from Monday and Tuesday

Joshua- I liked playing super heroes with my friends.

Jiya- I liked making the Gingerbread house with Miss Vanga and Ms Bland.

Tyra- I liked playing with Lola.

Lucas D- I liked looking at Kalais's gingerbread man.

Tuesday highlights

Marcus- I liked building my monster truck with Miss Vanga.

Ivo- I liked painting the poppy flowers.

Jiya- I liked reading with Ms Bland.

Amelia- I liked making the Gingerbread men house and decorating it with my mum.

Reading

Marcus read this book called "Little things". He read the book so well and looked at the pictures in the book to help him with unknown words.

Marcus was so proud of himself and he posed for a photo after reading the book twice.

Great reading Marcus!

Monster truck

Our friend Marcus built his monster truck and he came to show us in R21. It looked so cool and we all wanted to sit on it.

Only 3 people managed to fit on the truck!

Math at lunchtime

Yesterday Room 21 children learnt that half and half make one. At first they thought it made two, but we cut an apple  up to think about it. Today we used Sophie's ginormous feijoa to think about it again.

We have half and a half, so altogether we have...

ONE feijoa!

Surprise gingerbread houses

Room 21 had a huge surprise this morning! Mrs Edlington made a special gingerbread house for us and inside it were all our runaway gingerbread men! We got such a thrill to see them back again! We thought they must have seen the sign on the roof and decided they really should come back home to us.

We wanted to decorate our own gingerbread house so we did some planning. We drew the front, sides and roof of the house and added patterns to it. Afterwards we showed the places where we wanted to put lollies.

Mrs Edlington checked our plans to chose ideas from five of them to make our own gingerbread house. She showed us how to pipe designs onto the house pieces, then attach them all together. Look how it turned out! It even has smoke coming from the chimney because some of us planned that in our designs.

We also got to decorate our own gingerbread man and a little tree. We ate them for lunch! They were delicious.

Remembering the ANZACs

Our school is going to create a 'field of remembrance' for ANZAC Day to commemorate the ANZAC soldiers who died during a world War 1. Today each class were given a white cross with the name of one New Zealand soldier on it, and they will research that person.

Room 21 are going to learn about Lance Corporal P J Devereaux.

We went to see the place where the crosses will be laid out before Anzac Day.

This afternoon some children began painting some flowers which they will use to make a wreath for Anzac Day.

Easter Baskets

We enjoyed making Easter baskets today. Zina lost the handle for the basket but she solved the problem by drawing and making one of her own. Ka pai Zina!

Baking Gingerbread Houses

Room 22 baked gingerbread houses today.  Thank you to Holly's mum for helping us.

We also helped to cut the walls and roofs for our houses.

Later we got to taste the leftover from the cutouts. This is what we thought gingerbread tastes like...

Tomorrow we will put our houses together. Hopefully our gingerbread men will come back to them.

Easter Egg Hunt - Solving Clues

A big 'Thank You' to Sue, Helen and Ingrid for setting up an Easter Egg Hunt for Room 22. We enjoyed solving the clues which led us to a special goodie bag at the end of it.

Motivation and Focus - Grid Numbers

Easter Bunny left us some clues for colouring an Easter egg on a grid. In Room 22, we worked hard to solve the clues.

Ryan was so motivated and focused on the activity that he decided to stay in during break time to complete the egg. He became a pro at solving the clues.

Organizing Information

Easter eggs, chocolates, Easter Bunny, egg hunt, playing in our homes... In Room 22 we drew what Easter meant to each of us and helped to decide how to organize the information on a chart. We shared our thoughts with our friends. Do come by and have a look at the charts in our class.

Designing our own Easter Bunny

In Room 22, we planned and designed our own Easter Bunny puppet using a cup, magazine paper, markers and  pom poms. Harry and Liam discovered that they could cut out 2 bunny ears by just cutting once if they folded their papers into half. Shreya and Holly thought that using a glue gun was better than using pva glue for sticking the pom poms to  the cup. Do come and have a look at our bunnies sitting on the window sill.

Bread Making

Last Friday, we had a chance to help make bread and watch the yeast make the dough rise. We also remembered what ingredients were needed.

We took turns to be a cameraman and focus the camera on the baking table so that our classmates could watch the baking process up close on the Apple TV.

Best of all we tasted the bread.

This is what we thought...
