School's Out

Here we are in our last class photo. What a great year we have had together.

Now, we're off on a summer holiday!  Merry Christmas to you all and best wishes for the coming year.

Juggle Bells

Let this performance bring a smile to your face!  Happy holidays everyone!

A Rudolf game

Sammi brought a fun game for us to play. It was harder than it looked to hook the ring on an antler...

...but Maddie did it!

Final assembly

It was hard work to sit quietly during the last assembly because we were itching to go on holiday!

Mrs Hope Ede gave out some certificates and a prize. For some of us it was the first time to register who she is and her role at our school!

The Year 6 children stood up and we gave them three cheers!

The Kapa haka group performed part of our brand new school haka.

The we sang 'Feliz Navidad' before going on holiday!

A reminder...

School finishes at 1:30pm today!

Kapa haka surprise

Kingston was practicing with the Kapa haka group at lunch time. We heard that they will be giving the inaugural performance of our brand new school haka! It's going to be fantastic! Some of Miss Bland's students from last year came up with the ideas for the haka and Whaea Lois translated them.

Class Party

Today we had our class party to celebrate the end of a great year. Thank you to the families who brought food, and to the mothers who came to help us!

School office hours

Children will need a new stationery pack for next year. You may pay school fees, purchase stationery and uniforms from the school office from January 21, 2015.  Please note that the Office hours are as follows.

Christmas puppets

We are making some Christmas puppets!

Talk about Santa

Teacher: What food and drink does Santa like?
Aston: He likes eating chocolate cake and cookies. He likes drinking  beer and milk.

Teacher: Where does Santa live!
Maddie P: In the North Pole.

Teacher: Where is the North Pole?
Maddie E: At the top of the world.
Maddie P: I've been to the North Pole once.
Maddie E: Did you see Santa? (Maddie E)
Maddie P: No. I was at a different North Pole.
Maddie E: There's only one you know!

Teacher: What kind of house does Santa live in?
Maddie E: We don't know.

Teacher: What pets does Santa have?
Liam: He has reindeer.
Harry: And penguins.

Teacher: What time does Santa go to bed?
Aston: At thirty o'clock because he has to wrap the presents. So that's why he goes to bed late.

Teacher: Where does Santa get the presents from?
Maddie E: His elves make them.

Teachers: What are elves?
Liam: They are teeny weeny people.

Teacher: How are elves different from us?
Liam: Cause they are smaller, greater and smarter.

Teacher: Does Santa ever get tired of children?
Jabran: Yes, sometimes.
Teacher: What makes Santa tired?
Jabran: Because he gives lots of presents out.

If Santa got stuck in my chimney...

If Santa got stuck in my chimney I would...

...climb the chimney and push him up. (Rowan)

...push him back up. (Liam)

...tell the police to bring a helicopter to pull him out. (Mia)

...sneak away the presents! (Kaylah)

Up the tree

While some parents prepared our party we hung out at the big tree.

Today's funny moment

Guess who is Santa, and who is Rudolf!!

Ding, ding, ding

We had fun playing 'Jingle Bells' using tuned desk bells! We had to keep our eyes on the 'music' so we could play our bell at the right time.

Sight Words champions

These children knew all their Sight Words.

Shattered

Some of us are so tired and in desperate need of a holiday. Poor Alex was so shattered this morning that he lay down in a warm spot, and even though his friends were playing all around him, he didn't want to get up!

Ara Teina Assembly

During assembly today we heard from Lois, the children's librarian from the New Lynn Library. She brought her kea puppet and he was telling us about a cool summer holiday programme we can all participate in so we don't forget how to read!

A man from Glover Real Estate brought prizes for children who won first prizes and merit awards for the colouring in competition we entered. Some of our friends from other classes won prizes!

Look who won Room 17's certificate this week!

We are proud of his hard work and the way he focuses on learning.

Gliding in the pool

These children practiced blowing bubbles  slowly in the pool, then they tried gliding with pool noodles. For some it was a bit scary to trust the water to carry their weight.

Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney

This song has become one of our favourites! We have been singing it every day this week. We especially love putting on a deep 'Santa' voice when he says "Oh, I don't know what to do!"

Thinking about the meaning

After swimming time today we needed some down time so we watched a video. It was a video of a string puppet. We watched the video carefully to figure out what the puppet was thinking.

We figured out that the puppet didn't like being controlled by the puppeteer and wanted the freedom to control himself so he cut his strings. Unfortunately by cutting off the strings, the puppet destroyed his chance at freedom.

Illustration

Today we made illustrations for our School Song: Te Kura Arahoe. These are the winners we selected.

Swimming Starfish

We had fun at the pool today after our sale. Some of us learnt to swim with boards and practised our freestyle strokes.

We also tried to be starfish and sea-urchins.

Our Sales Specialists

These are two amazing shopkeepers. Here is a snap shot of their conversation with one of our teachers.
Shopkeeper R: Would you like to get this for your class?
Teacher of Rm 19: Sure, that's a good suggestion. Can you reserve it for me and I will come back later to get it?
Shopkeeper L: Sure. I will put it behind for you.
 Ka pai!

Our used toy and book sale

We were very excited this morning because our shop opened first thing in the morning! We had lots of children come over to buy our things. We even had teachers and parents drop by.

We were very happy to be shop keepers. It was fun to take the money and work out how to give change when necessary.

We made more than $250! We feel happy that we are helping baby Holly-Rose have a better life after her mum died in a car crash last month.

Look at all the money we raised! It was fun for these boys to sort it all, then count it! So this is what $250 looks like!

Setting up shop

We set up our shop for our Kindness Project fundraiser. It was fun to figure out how much each thing would cost!

We had to arrange the items on the table nicely so our customers can see them.

Lastly, some of us practiced being shop-keepers and customers! We can't wait to open our shop tomorrow!

Singing our songs

We visited Mrs Sadgrove this afternoon and sang her our Christmas songs. She loved them and also likes the jingle sticks we use!

Writing thank you letters

This morning we re-wrote our thank you letters to make a good copy and added a colourful illustration.
