Bee headbands

After reading a book about bees we made some special headbands.  If you look at each bee you will see that they are all unique.

Sunflowers

We made some 'sunflowers' out of paper cups.  We added 'seeds', a stem and leaves.

Student of the Week

Here is out student of the week who got a certificate in the School Assembly for being consistently focused in class and for knowing how to work independently.  Congratulations!

Playing on the playground

Sometimes, as a treat, our teacher takes us to have a little play on the playground.  It helps us to strengthen our balance, coordination, upper body strength and confidence.

Cutting lesson

We had a special lesson to learn how to cut curved and straight lines using scissors.

Making ketes

We finally finished off our weaving and turned it into a kete (woven bag).  We even made a little kumara (sweet potato) to go inside them.

Reading

After our morning break and lunch-time we come inside and read a book quietly on the mat.  It's fun to look at the pictures and imagine what the story is about.  Every day our teacher will read one of the stories to us.  We LOVE listening to stories!

Celebrating Diwali

Thank you to one mother who sent us some special Diwali treats made from cashew nuts, sugar and coconut wrapped in a pastry.

Visiting West Lynn Garden

West Lynn Garden is just a short walk from our school.  This morning we took a look around the garden to see what interesting things we could find.  Come with us and see what we found!

We found an interesting plant-holder, a sweet smelling rose,

some surprises up a tree, a tree that looks like an umbrella,

a seed pod, leaves shaped like hearts,

flowers shaped like butterflies, a skeleton leaf,

a bird's nest, a silver fern,

flowers that look like fireworks, a tree with a wiggly tree trunk,

a wasp nest, a cat hiding the garden,

lots of caterpillars and a chrysallis!

Look at us doing our work!

We finished our Scavenger Hunt!

We're tired and hungry!

Let's eat!

Now it's time to walk back to school.

Do you know your seeds?

Look at these seeds carefully.  Can you tell which one will grow the biggest plant?

Which seed will grow a bean?
Which seed will grow the tallest plant?

Counting up to 100

How many pieces of macaroni can fit inside a giant's handprint?  Well, we worked it out!

Most of the giant's handprints could fit 100 pieces of macaroni inside them!

After we counted the pieces we drew our own handprint inside the giant's one
then we counted how many pieces of macaroni could fit into ours.

Which hand do you think had the most pieces of macaroni?
