Christmas crackers
Isabel brought some Christmas crackers to school and we had a lot of fun pulling them. We learnt that when the cracker breaks, the person with the largest part gets to keep the surprises inside it! For some of us it was our first experience with Christmas crackers.

All the children will need new stationery for next year. Please buy your child's stationery pack from the school office. Teachers will label the books. We prefer you do not cover them please.
A peek at our 'bee book'
Our bee books have arrived! Take a quick peek at the front cover! Those people who have ordered and paid for theirs will get them tomorrow.
Penelope wins a prize!
Earlier in the term we entered a colouring competition and today Kay from Glover Real Estate came to hand out the prizes. Penelope was awarded a merit for her entry.
Free time
When some children finished their work they organized their own memory game. They did an amazing job at taking turns and playing nicely.

Taking it easy
We are having a relaxed week since it is our last week before the summer holidays! We kicked off our week by painting some Christmas pictures and some of us made bees out of pipe cleaners.
Show stopper
Some boys presented a 'show' during break time this afternoon. They got their 'guitars' ready and sang 'What does the fox say?' Now we're waiting for the next show... The karate show!

At the school prize-giving the Room 18 class award was presented to Isabel for her outstanding attitude towards learning. Congratulations Isabel!
Watching 'The bee song' music video
The draft version of our music video is done! We watched it today and got so excited to see ourselves on the big screen. Tomorrow the teachers will send home an order form for the book and DVD which will be printed next week!
Watching the broadcast
We watched the broadcast today with Room 19 because they don't have a big tv like us. It was nice to share our things with them.

Decorating the big tree
We made some oversized Christmas decorations and hung them in one of the big trees on the top field.
To make our decorations we used old cardboard boxes and wool.

Outdoor lesson
Today we did our Maths worksheet outside. It was much cooler there than in our classroom! We were doing subtraction using little beetles. Most of us answered all the questions without any help.
Painting
We're learning to hold a paint brush to paint small details. It was a bit tricky to get the brush pointing upwards so we could use the tip of it.

Swimming
Today we had our first swim in our school pool. We learnt that we always walk near the pool, we must keep our hands to ourselves and that we only into and out of the pool using the ladder. When our teacher puts her hand up we must stop straight away and listen to what she has to say.
Balancing on a unicycle
At lunchtime today some of us got to try balancing on a unicycle. It was quite tricky! The girls were a lot better at balancing than the boys!

Family Night
Family Night was very entertaining. We sat in the front row and watched the Kapa haka children perform. Then it was our turn to perform!
Lots of school groups performed and the parent-teacher band played. At the end of the night the Christmas Choir sang to welcome Santa Claus to Arahoe School!
Strongest in the class
We had a contest to see who was the strongest boy and girl in Room 18. The strongest girls were Trisha and Penelope. The strongest boys were Shiloh and Otto.
Fizz Kids fun
At Fizz Kids today we got to creep through a tunnel, bat tennis balls and practice balancing and rolling. We loved it!
