Disco next week

Parents, we will have a school disco next week on Friday. Please read the notice that was sent home today with your child. A poster is in the window of our classroom too.

Painting with cardboard

We learnt how to scrape paint onto our paper using a piece of cardboard. We are using this experience as a practice for painting our World War 1 commemorative poppies.

Our Best Illustrators

Our friends worked really hard and made beautiful pictures for their poem today.

Crazy Hat & Hair

We came with the most amazing hair and costumes today. We enjoyed having our hair done up by our mums! Sammi from our class was the joint winner of the title of 'The Craziest Hair'. Congratulations, Sammi!

Special 'Thank you'

Sydney's mum sent us a cute 'thank you' video. We loved it so much we watched  it three times!

Drum Rolls...

Kingston received a certificate at assembly today for being hardworking, conscientious and focused in his work in class. He has been a good participant in class activities. Well done, Kingston!

The Shooting Stars Choir performed 'True Colours' for us during assembly. They sang beautifully!

Bowling Math

More photos on the fun Bowling Math we had.

Math Time

Today we learnt to order numbers 11- 20. We took turns to practice our numbers on iPads, making the number worm, matching the numbers and words to the ladybird and reading the numbers on the board.

Ice cream containers needed

Next week we want to make a mini worm farm but we need some plastic ice cream containers. Do you have any you could give us please?

Sharing our news

Arnav loves tow trucks and is eager to share that passion. Kerisha told us how she made a painted rainbow and added glitter before it dried. Kaylah explained how she designed an aeroplane from Lego.

11 - 20

We are practicing numbers from 11 to 20.

Brain Break

We had a brain break and earned minutes to make our class GoNoodle avatar grow larger!  We worked so hard that we reached level 2!

Searching for S and s

We are learning to find S and s in a whole bunch of letters.

Checking our work

We are learning to write Casey Shapes the right size. Some of us need practice at starting at the right place. We did a little practice today.

Our teacher drew some shapes and we got to check them!  She did some shapes wrongly and we had to explain why it wasn't right.

Bowling in the classroom!

We practiced recognising numbers today in a fun way.  We played ten pin bowling and had to identify the number of the bottle we knocked over!

We cheered on our classmates while waiting for our turn. We are getting so good at being patient.

Noke & koru

Today we learnt two new Maori words-

Koru

Noke

Ask us what these words mean.  (Here's a hint!)

Counting to 100

Look who can count to 100!

Top scorers

The top class dojo scorers earned themselves some extra time on the iPads today!

Lovely handwriting

These three lovelies did amazing handwriting this morning. They kept all the Casey Shapes the right size!

Ng

Best work

These two ladies completed our letter s tasks so beautifully. We thought we should show you how tidy their work is!

Drama Fun

Rubbish, rubbish everywhere! We are not happy with that!

We pretended to be a heap of rubbish; empty cans, newspaper, cardboard, wet paper, broken toys, plastic bags...

Our friends told a story about how some dolls were broken because the children pulled the dolls and they ended in the rubbish heap.

More Treasures

Our friends brought interesting treasures to share with us. Sydney drew a picture remembering her great-great-great grandfather who died during the war. Harry shared the line and circle patterns he made. Corin told us about the movie cards he collected and Bella the groovy monkey she brought to class. Arnav brought another truck drawing with a vehicle that had a flat tyre hidden in it. Kaylah shared her colourful 'I Love School' drawing. Alex showed us the spider he found in his garden and Claire brought apple food scraps for the worms. They are so interesting. We loved to hear about our friends' treasures.

Colourful 's' Pictures

We looked for pictures beginning with 's' and made the large S really attractive.

Crazy Hat/Hair Day

Don't forget to plan your crazy hat/hair for this Friday. Set aside your mufti clothes and a gold coin!  If you do, you will help raise money for a bigger swimming pool for our school.

First iPad experience

Some children were super excited today to play on our new iPads!  Liam was especially happy because it was his first time to use an iPad!

Ask us to tell you the rules for using iPads!  We are getting so good at remembering to press the screens gently, use two hands when carrying them, and only using the games our teachers tell us to.

When our teachers ask us to turn them off we all stop and put them away without a fuss!  :)

Cutting & Pasting

Cutting skills are very important in Year 1. We do at least one cut and paste activity each day. Today we had to count the 'shoes' on some centipedes then cut the right number out to match.

These two finished the task first!

Brain Break

We had a 'brain break' today and learnt some relaxation and refocusing techniques.  The instructions were to move our heads slowly from side to side while we sat up straight and tall.

Casey Shapes

We revised the names of some Casey Shapes when making a repeating pattern. Can you name the shapes we used?

We also talked about the right and wrong way to write some shapes.

Fun with our IPads

Some more children had their turn with the IPads today. We are using them at Math time, so we can only play games that help us learn numbers.

And now there are 30!

Today our class grew by two!  We now have 30 children in Room 19.  Welcome to our two newest ladies - Sammi and Rowan.

See

The word we focused on today in our poem was 'see'.

Miss Bland drew eyes on the word 'see' because we need eyes to see!  Hopefully it will help us remember our new Sight Word too!

We had to look for the word 'see' on our worksheet today, then colour them in.

Thinking about /s/ words

The sound of the week is /s/ in Room 19 this week. We already know a lot of words that start with /s/.

Can you help us think of more /s/ words?
