Medals for Serving in WWII

This morning Clint (Zoey's dad) came to visit our class. He brought these special medals. These medals were given to Zoey's great grandad John Derek Homan for his service in WWII in the Solomon Islands between 1939 - 1945. Zoey's great grandad was a brave soldier.

The star on the left represents service in the Battle of Britain. The next star is the Pacific Star for service in Burma. The Defence Medal represents the King's Commendation for Brave Conduct. The other two medals are the War Medal 1939 - 1945 and the NZ War Service Medal. At the end of Clint's sharing, we had a chance to look at the medals up close and to touch them. Thank you Clint for coming by to share with us.

Zoey made a poppy badge to wear for our Commemoration Day. She made it to look just like her great grandad's medals.
