Craig Barrett the Olympian

Today Craig Barrett visited us during Assembly. He won the Silver Medal for Walking for the Commonwealth Games held in Manchester in 2002. Do you know how far he had to walk? 50 km! "That's really, really far!" Bella commented.

He told us that the first time he competed at the Games he did not get a medal. He trained hard to get his Silver medal. He encouraged us to hold on to our dreams and work towards them.

Some of our schoolmates had a little race with him at the front of the hall.

Can you guess who won?

Later, we had a chance to look at his medal in our class.

We pretended one of our friends won the medal and we had a Medal Presentation Ceremony. We waved the flag and sang our National Anthem.

My goodness Room 18 you had such a busy day! You all look good in your pyjamas as well. You are very lucky to be in such a fun class. Kia ora koutou.
