Chinese Mooncake Festival Celebration

Kate's mum shared some information with us about the Chinese Mooncake Festival. She explained that one of the special traditions she remembers doing since she was a child is to carry lanterns around. We decided to make lanterns too!  We decorated them with patterns then walked around the classroom with them!

She taught us a Chinese poem about the Mooncake Festival Night. It tells of how every family watches the bright shiny moon as they enjoy the mooncakes. Ms Tan will teach us this poem over the next few days.

Look at the mooncakes. They look just like the full moon.

The mooncakes are filled with lotus paste and each has two egg yolks in it. Some of us had our first taste of mooncakes.

We enjoyed making lanterns, trying mooncakes and learning a poem in Mandarin. A big 'Thank You' to Kate's mum for spending the afternoon with us and the interesting tasting mooncakes, Claire's Nana for finding the poem for us and Claire's Dad for the YouTube clips on Mooncake Festival.
