What is a sentence?

I In Writing time we learnt how to write a simple sentence. We know that a sentence is a bunch of words. A sentence always starts with a capital letter and finished with a full stop.

We used Spelling Blocks to help us spell. Here is a little look at how we use them.

Our teacher shows us the number of blocks that we need to spell each word then we stretch out the sounds so we can hear each one. Next we think about the letter that goes with each sound we heard.

When we need to spell a word like 'come' our teacher tells us that the little block on the end means letter 'e'.

This is how we use the blocks to spell the word 'school'.

When we wrote the word 'Grandison' our teacher told us that this word has a capital letter because it is the name of a person!  Long ago there was a man called Mr Grandison that used to live in New Lynn!  The street is named after him.

We looked inside the word 'Grandison' and Charlotte saw the word 'is' inside it!  Corin found 'and' and Madison saw 'on' inside the longer word!  What clever looking!
