Using new skills

Last week Marcus read a book asking how many seeds are inside a pumpkin. Some students made predictions about how many seeds were inside. After that Marcus took all the seeds out of a pumpkin and let them dry.

Today Ms Bland and Marcus counted the seeds. Every time they counted ten, they drew a circle. After they did that they showed us the circles and asked for our help to count.

We have just started learning how to skip count in tens, so we used our new skills to figure out how many seeds there are all together. We were surprised that there were 280!

Ms Bland has challenged us to ask our mums if we can count the seeds inside the pumpkins we have at home. She wants to know if 280 seeds in a pumpkin is average.
