Preparing for Anzac Day

A special box has arrived containing items to help us learn about the significance of ANZAC Day. Miss Bland is very interested in helping us learn more about World War 1.

We read two stories that helped us learn more about the sacrifice of soldiers 100 years ago. One story was called 'Simpson and his Donkey.'

It was about an Australian soldier called Jack Simpson who was a stretcher bearer at Gallipoli. His job was to take water up the steep cliffs to the soldiers using a donkey, and then would bring an injured soldier back down the hill.

Wounded soldiers were taken to the field hospital, then taken back to the troop ships anchored off the coastline and finally transported back to bigger hospitals in Cairo, Egypt.

Sadly, for Jack Simpson, he was shot and killed by a Turkish sniper.
