Celebrating Peace

As today is Armistice Day we taught our students that we should value the peace we have and find ways to be peaceful people in our world.

We published sentences about peace on dove paper and hung them on a tree in the classroom.

We made some doves from paper plates too!

We read a story about three boys who went off to World War 1 together. One didn't return home.

The story made us feel sad because soldiers died in fighting that was supposed to bring us peace.

At 11am we were with our school family outside at a special Peace Event.

We heard a bag piper play Amazing Grace, and also listened quietly to The Last Post. One of the seniors read The Ode of Remembrance, then some students told us what the word for peace is, in their language.

The choir sang a lovely song from the war-time called 'White Cliffs of Dover' and many of us felt it reminded us of the hundreds of thousands of soldiers who died during the war.

At the end of the programme some of our friends released doves as a symbol of peace. That was really exciting to watch them circle above us and then fly away.
