Armistice Commemoration

At 11am the whole school gathered together near our wall of poppies to commemorate Armistice Day. Today it is 96 years since the agreement was made to end World War 1.

A Middle School girl read a thoughtful poem written by a ten year old boy. It was called 'Never Again'. It reminded us that we don't want to have another war ever again.

We had a two minute silence. The first minute was to remember all those who died during the war, the second minute was to reflect on all those who were affected as a result of war. We thought about the mothers who lost their sons, the children who lost their fathers, the people who lost their brothers.

At the end of the two minute silence a portion from the 'Ode of Remembrance' was read.

'They shall not grow old,
as we who are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them."

The Stepping Up choir sang 'In Flanders Fields', a somber song about how so many soldiers lie buried in the soil of Flanders, amongst the poppies.
