Diwali Celebrations

This afternoon we had our Diwali celebrations. Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs. For the Hindus, they celebrate Lakshmi's birthday and the return from exile of Lord Rama.

Kerisha's mum and nana came dressed in their shimmering saris for the celebration. They look beautiful! Alex described them as 'the princess and the queen!'

They also setup a Diwali display for our class.

We made Rangoli patterns and painted Diyas (earth lamps). The Hindus put a light in their earth lamps that's why Diwali is also called Deepavali which means Light Festival.

We ate Halva a special sweet too!

A big thank you to Kerisha's mum and nana for helping us understand your special celebration!
